Committee on Early Grade Success

During the 2017 Florida legislative session, Helios effectively partnered with the Florida Children’s Council as well as advocates within the early learning community to champion formation of the Committee on Early Grade Success. The Committee became a legislative priority for Representative Erin Grall, and was created as part of the omnibus K-12 education bill signed by Governor Rick Scott. The committee’s work resulted in a series of recommendations to transform early learning systems in Florida, establishing the framework for the creation and implementation of a coordinated child assessment system for the Florida School Readiness Program, Voluntary Prekindergarten Education Program, and Kindergarten Readiness Assessment.

Informed by two Helios-led community convenings that centered on building assessment systems for early learners, Helios Education Foundation also published a brief designed to cover the key decision points educators and state officials face when developing a comprehensive early childhood accountability system.

Florida 2030 Cornerstone Project

Helios Education Foundation joined forces with the Florida Chamber Foundation in support of Florida 2030, a statewide strategic plan, built around the Six Pillars for Florida’s Future Economy, which is scheduled for release in March, 2018.

Intent on ensuring education remains a statewide priority, Helios supported the “Talent Supply and Education” pillar, including original research that assesses current conditions and data, anticipates future trends and risks, and explores alternative futures.
